On the night of the launch of her Red Label Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, Dame Vivienne Westwood expressed her disappointment in what she saw in the way a woman dressed right now. Never one to mince words, she reliably produced a memorable soundbite for waiting journalists.
Singling out Queen Elizabeth as a woman who knew how to dress, Dame Westwood said,
In fact, people have never looked so ugly as they do today regarding their dress. Because we are so conformist, nobody is thinking. We are all sucking up stuff, we have been trained to be consumers and we just consume far too much… What I’m saying is buy less, choose well and make a choice. Don’t just suck up stuff. Everybody looks like clones.
Do you agree that fast fashion has become the undoing of tasteful dressing? Do we consume too much too fast for our own good?
